Hi Zoe:

Ottawa is blessed with many waterways. Though it's hard to believe that turtles exist in between the stone walls of the Rideau Canal, I am certain they do.

However, your best bet to see turtles is along the natural banks of either the Rideau or Ottawa Rivers. This isn't technically "wild", but it's a close as you are going to get within the city.

If you go south on old Hiway #16 out of Ottawa towards Manotick, there are many places along that highway where you can access the Rideau River. Do that, and wander along the bank. You will find turtles.

Or, even along the walkway below the Parliament Buildings along the Ottawa River. Watch the edge of the water or for rocks or logs floating near shore. You can often see turtles sitting on them and sunning themselves.

Cheers,

Bill
