What's a Loppet? A Gatineau one, in particular?
The Gatineau Loppet... Everybody On The Trails! February 19 thru 21, 2010.
2010 will be the year of the games in Canada and Gatineau.
The Gatineau Loppet cross-country ski race first came onto the scene in 1978 under the name of the «Rivière Rouge» («Red River»).
The word «Loppet» is of Scandinavian origin for «large gathering» and refers to the membership in the international Worldloppet family of races.
The Gatineau Loppet will be taking place right at the mid-point of the Vancouver Olympic Games, and a few months later Gatineau will be welcoming the 45th Finale des Jeux du Québec.
As with these two events, the Gatineau Loppet is an event that brings people together to focus on health, physical activity and intercultural exchanges.
The 32nd edition will, among other things, give participants the opportunity to watch the Olympic Games from the Ski Show Salon.
The energy of the games will also imbue the 2 km Mini Gazifère.
This year, the Gatineau Loppet starting point will shift a hundred metres to behind Gatineau Park’s Relais plein air in the Mont-Bleu sports complex.
