Canadian-Tulip-Festival-Update May 2010

This year I hadn’t taken in any of Ottawa’s 2010 Tulip Festival as yet, and like many, had heard stories about how the unusually warm early-spring weather had forced many of the tulips to bloom early.

Then, on the opening weekend just past, unseasonably cold weather along with snow flurries arrived, that with some horrendous, bone chilling, high winds and ... Hmmmm. what of our tulips?

Tuesday last, that was May 11 and during the first week after the Festival opened, after a very busy day in Ottawa, I took the time to stop and smell the roses ~ uhhh ~ the tulips, at Commissioners Park, one of the venues in Ottawa famous for the festival tulip displays.

It was a warm and mostly sunny afternoon, letting me shed my spring jacket comfortably. I recall wandering the paths, enjoying the tulip beds (my “guestimate” was about 75-85% are in beautiful bloom and in good shape) and then stopping and listening to a couple of cardinals whistling to each other in the nearby tree tops.

The Canadian Tulip Festival is alive and well, despite the rather interesting weather. I took a lot of photos, and had to work hard to shoot around the many people, like myself, enjoying a gorgeous afternoon near Dow's Lake. Congratulations to the Tulip Festival committee and the NRC for an absolutely outstanding array of tulips.

Before you see the rather amateurish photos I took, just below, can I ask a favour? Did you get a really good photo of tulips at the festival that perhaps you would like to share. Here's how.

Do you have a tulip picture to share with the world?

As I was enjoying the bed-after-bed of tulips at Commissioners Park, there was a male and female mallard duck on the lawn near one of the beds.
