Rideau Canal opens for skating Jan 8/11

Part of the Rideau Canada is opening today for public skating.

A 2 km section, between the Bank Street and Pretoria bridges has sufficient ice thickness for use.

Ottawa's NCC does an excellent job of monitoring conditions, and keeping the skateway in great shape! Thanks for that.

This from the NCC website:

"Pedestrians and skaters are asked not to venture onto the closed sections of the Skateway where ice is considered unsafe.

The NCC is working towards opening other sections of the world’s largest skating rink as soon as ice conditions are safe and weather permits. "
