Prehistoric-World

Prehistoric-World ;

Not far from Ottawa, about 90 minutes or so by car, you can walk where the dinosaurs live!

Not live ones, of course.

Nature Trail With Dinosaurs

But as you wander the eastern Ontario woodlot along the one kilometer nature trail through the forest, full sized replicas of dinosaurs appear around almost every turn here in prehistoric world.

Dinosaur

For twenty five years Paul Dupuis and family have carved this dinosaur walkway out of the forest.

Visitors stroll the nature trail and can see, touch and hug full size, full colour dinosaur replicas.

Hug A Dinosaur

Hugging a dinosaur seems like a natural thing for small children to do. During my recent visit Mom's were taking photos of their small children hugging a full sized dinosaur's leg that was bigger around and much taller than they were; neat!

Adding full sized dinosaurs models to the park continues to this day. In the photo below, you can see a new base and wire framework on which this dinosaur's muscle and skin are to be layered.

Palaeozoic Era

From the small primitive reptiles of the Palaeozoic era, to the gigantic dinosaurs of the Jurassic Cretaceous periods, come and tower over the tiny creatures or be dwarfed by the immensely huge and fearsome looking Triceratops, which, despite it's formidable armour and multi-horned face, was a gentle herbivore.

T-Rex

And, to top it all off, present yourself to the flinty gaze of the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Look up, look way up. This is a serious dinosaur.

Getting To Prehistoric World

How do you get to Prehistoric World?

It's actually just down the road from the world famous Upper Canada Village. It makes some sense, then, if your time allows, to consider visiting Prehistoric World the same day you walk back in time to a working 1860's village.

Prehistoric World is located on Upper Canada Road, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) south and east of Ottawa. Take Bank Street straight south out of Ottawa.

Continue on Bank St. as it turns into Highway 31 south, and follow that about 60 kilometers (about 37 miles) to Highway #401 (MacDonald-Cartier Freeway) which you would take in an easterly direction.

Heading eastbound on Highway 401 for about 8 kilometers (5 miles) you'll arrive at, Upper Canada Road. Exit there, go south (right) for a short distance and you will see the sign for Prehistoric World on your right.

Google Map

If it will help, here's a Google Map of the location of Prehistoric World. Prehistoric World is not shown on the Google map. It is located just north of Highway #2, off Upper Canada Road.

You can see the satellite view here. The grounds are just down from what appears to be a large island in a small lake in the satellite view.

Prehistoric World is a magical place for kids. School groups are welcome and are frequent visitors. So come on along, and walk where the dinosaurs are!
