When we decided to visit Cape Cod, we also wanted to stay at the farthest reaches of it, so we selected Provincetown as our destination, and the Ampersand Guest House as our lodging for this trip. First off, here's a photo of the Ampersand whilst standing on quaint Cottage Street. You can see their rooftop terrace, which overlooks Cape Cod Bay and parts of Commercial Street, the street where it all happens in P-town.
Next, have a look at one of their very comfortable guest rooms.
Robert Vetrick & Ken Janson, partners in the Ampersand, will go out of their way to make you welcome. Robert, the fresh muffins every morning were delicious. Ken, you brew a mean cup of coffee. Thanks for the tips about what to see and when to see it in P-town. Folks, if you're planning on visiting Cape Cod and you enjoy the at home feel of a guest house, can I suggest you visit the Ampersand Guest House. Now, about those restaurants. Provincetown has dozens of eating establishments within a few blocks along Commercial Street.
I've eaten a lot of steaks in a lot of restaurants around the world in my travels, and I've got to tell you that Vorelli's steaks rival any I've tasted. We enjoyed our meal the first time, we went back and had dinner there on our last night in Provincetown. It was at Vorelli's that I first tasted Newport Storm Hurricane Amber Ale. Now that's a good beer brewed by the craft artists at Costal Extreme Brewing Company our of Newport, Rhode Island. Unfortunately, it's not available near where I live....yet! Vorelli's Restaurant Call in to Vorelli's Grille for great steaks and other most excellent dishes, won't you?
Of course, for the seafood aficionado "The" place to have a seafood meal while in Provincetown is the Lobster Pot. The clam chowder is the best we'd ever had. We sat up in the second floor dining area, with wide windows overlooking Cape Cod Bay, and a very pleasant mid-afternoon lunch break. I do have to tell you that if you don't want to eat a lot of Cape Cod sea bed, stay away from the steamers (steamed long neck clams). I've enjoyed this seafood delicacy around the world, and never have I had to return a bucket as a result of the clams containing way too much sand. That despite rinsing them well in the provided rinse ramekin before dipping them in the drawn butter. Should have been great. They weren't. On the up side, the garlic shrimp they replaced my steamers with were wonderful. As I mentioned, there are dozens and dozens of restaurants in Provincetown, and many will be every bit as food as though we enjoyed while there. One other spot that needs mentioning is the Portuguese Bakery. It's well worth visiting for a breakfast or lunch. Their Portuguese breakfast sandwich offers superb taste at very reasonable price, with a fresh roll, thick Portuguese sausage, egg and cheese. I recommend you visit them right in downtown on Commercial Street if you're looking for an excellent dish. It's a bit eccentric, but very, very good. To top |
