In May of 2010, this long-time Ottawa museum is planning a name change to: Canada Aviation and Space Museum, to broaden it's appeal to visitors, and to better reflect the changing role Canada is playing both in aviation and in space travel. The Canadian Aviation museum, located about 10-15 minutes driving time (assuming no traffic jams) from Parliament Hill, currently offers the visitor exhibits including more than 130 aircraft, and an almost countless number of artefacts from Canada’s aviation past. Items include propellers, instruments, flying uniforms and gear, and wind-tunnel models.
The mission of the Canada Aviation Museum is to “collect, preserve, depict and display aviation-related objects of all types”, to quote them. Are you a flying aficionado? As a visitor to or a resident of Ottawa, get to the Aviation Museum to get your “fix” for flying. The Aviation Museum is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) east of Ottawa’s Parliament Buildings. You simply head east from Parliament on Rideau Street until it crosses the Rideau River, and becomes Montreal Road. Continue on Montreal Road until you reach the Aviation Parkway. Turn left, and the museum is a kilometer or so along on your right at 11 Aviation Parkway. You can’t miss it.
